British Virgin Islands currently does not have nationwide licensing for beauty services, except hair and nails.

When setting up a business, you will need to comply with any local laws relating to business registration.

There may also be local regulations regarding health and safety when operating your business.

Below are the requirements for getting a license in hair and nail services.

Beauty Services in British Virgin Islands

Nail techs are expected to complete 500 hours of training at a recognised institution. They then need to pass the licensure examination after training completion.

  • Manicure and Pedicure
  • Facials (including Skin Needling & Microdermabrasion)
  • Lash and Brow Tinting & Lash Perming

Hair Services in British Virgin Islands

Hairdressers also need to take a recognised training program and complete 1,500 hours of cosmetology study. A licensing exam then follows, which they need to pass.

  • Hair Cutting
  • Hair Coloring
  • Hair Extensions
  • Hair Treatments

Cosmetic Tattoo Services in British Virgin Islands

Cosmetic tattoo artists are not required to complete a training program at recognised institution as they can get skilled through a course of their choice. They must, however, present proof of a minimum of 2 years experience or apprenticeship in the field. They can then apply for a trade license to legally practice in the country.

Cosmetic tattoo services are:

  • Permanent Makeup (Nano Brows, Ombre Brows, Lip Blush / Tattoo, Eyeliner)
  • Microblading
As these services involve penetrating the skin, there may be local regulations pertaining to health and safety (for example, sterilization and disposal of needles) and the premises you operate from.
